Meet the Burcat family: Gidon (50), Michal (49), Amit (15) and Noga (12)
We joined the Kodesh VeChol congregation Kodesh VeChol in 2012 as we were seeking a quality public kindergarten for Amit. Evaluating the offerings, we chose to join the pioneering group which formed the first class of Gan Tarbut Ivrit (Hebrew Culture Kindergarten). At that time, the gan was in its nascent form and everything was uncertain, challenging and fascinating. In 2016, Noga joined what has since transformed into a thriving established academic framework, a Pre-K through 6th grade elementary school track for Hebrew Culture.
Gidon, a renowned graphic designer, serves as an active board member of the congregation, volunteering his time and skills to digitize and create a visual language for the community.
Michal Langberg Burcat is a clinical dietitian, working for Israel’s public women’s health system and specializing in gestational diabetes. She is the volunteer manager of the congregation’s second-hand thrift shop, ‘Boutique Gurion’ which caters to all Holon’s residents. Clothes are sold and/or donated to underprivileged individuals and the store is fully operated by volunteers. Michal completed her studies in ‘Style Therapy’, a holistic approach to clothing and styling founded in Israel, which she applies to her work in the community.
Amit is in 10th grade. He enjoys hiking, soccer and basketball and is very involved in his Mashatzim Youth Group, a youth movement that prepares youth to be leaders through the knowledge and love of Israel.
Noga is in 7th grade and is deeply active in the Scouts, Israel’s largest youth movement. In her free time, she is extremely crafty and talented in different forms of art ranging from embroidery to origami.
Favorite Jewish ritual:
Michal – I love the feeling before and leading up to Rosh Hashana.
Gidon – I like Tu Bishvat and the Havdalah ceremony between Israel's Memorial day and Independance day.
Amit – Sufganiyot!
Noga – Lighting the menorah on Channukah and making my own Purim costume from scratch.
